I can't help but to think of a line from "Army of Darkness" when I see this version of the Freighliner engine; Sheila: You found me beautiful once... Ash: Honey, you got reeeal ugly!

I don't understand how GE dared to produce such an ugly design. Even if they focus only on technical specs and the economics of producing a locomotive, not caring at all about an esthetic and meaningful design, one can't help but think that a good looking "railroadish" design contributes to shape the GE engines brand image. When looking at these locomotives, my initial feelings were surprise and anger against such an ugly thing, and my next thoughts were that these engines convey a sense of junk, fragility, unreliability, plastic toy, etc. I can't believe that the same company once produced the beautiful "Super Fleet" Santa Fe GEs...
