8 years before I was born... Such an awesome shot. E units and Amfleets. I really was born in the wrong era.

Certainly different engines than run today. Does anybody know why the grills were placed over the windshields? Was this to protect the crew?

A beautiful photo that many would have passed up due to the fog, Charles! I thought sneaking to the tracks on vacation while the family sleeps was something only I had done !

Unfortunately, the grilles were needed to protect the windshields against rock and brick throwers. The window at my coach seat on the "Lake Shore" was rocked in Indiana, but did not break. It must have been Lexan plastic.
