As a life long railfan that's also a computer geek, this looks like a dream job. I'm a little surprised that there are few headsets visible, I thought that would be how they communicated with train crews. Thanks for sharing what is rarely seen, but often heard.

Oh my god! UP Uses Novell Netware?? I am an IT guy and it absolutely horrifies me that a company like UP would still be using Netware in 2011! I feel sorry for you guys, my company got off of the platform in 2007, and that was about 7-10 years after most of the rest of the civilized world.

Everyone in this room uses headsets. The corridor managers use wireless ones for the telephone, and the dispatchers use wired ones connected to an Avtec digital communications server. I work in the Spring, TX dispatch center, but have worked in Harriman center in Omaha. ADH
