Very, very cool! Hard to imagine the 4449 in Atlanta. Took me a little to figure out where the shot was too, the grade crossing is now gone, too many close calls with tanker trucks like the one in your shot.

I rode this train from Gainesville, GA. to Greenville, SC, and took a similar shot - albeit with less smoke - as it arrived at the Gainesville station. A wonderful memory.

Yes! Ever since Hurricane Irene cause damage in Long Island, maybe it will be great to see 4449 in AFT colors again!

I boarded at Lynchburg and remember the speedometer on the rear observation car showing 75 mph on its final leg near Manassas.

Excellent shot indeed. We saw the train on display at Fort Gillem. At the time, I was enthused at the lines of RS3s that were stored there awaiting their trasformation into yard slugs.
