This configuration has to do with the equipment being rotated on a regular basis with the Lake Shore Limited equipment this winter to keep the equipment equally thawed out from snow and ice. The baggage car is being run on the rear to provide the smoothest ride possible since the sleepers are run at the end of the consist. The extra drag helps to provide a gentler ride for those with sleeping accommodations, so as I have read for the reasoning for this setup. Expect this configuration to be around till spring.
