Notice to locomotive modelers: Do you see Dulcoat sprayed on this new locomotive?

Out of the box locomotive!

To backyard, As a railway modeller just building a new layout, trains ran all way round for first time last night, when would this locomotive get its first coating of 'Dulcoat'? But it still looks like a model 'straight out of the box' and good photograph for us modelling guys and girls. (Our club has two ladies)

Awesome detail there. Judging by the 1997 date I'd venture to say it's not even digital. Thanks for sharing.

This locomotive was never dulcoated...ever. But over the years it has weathered, a little rail grime around the trucks & tanks, soot on top, eventually the paint has faded, spots of dirt along the pilot plow, scratches, lubricant and fuel leaks, a new part here or there, replaced hoses, mud and snow, etc. Most roads now use acrilic paint and that looks new when washed, enamal paint fades fast. Point being that painting only when the temperature is between 68° and 82° and the humidity is no higher than 40% will a smooth finish be achieved, as this locomotive was...then it got weathered, not dulled!
