I recorded a program that covered this day and it's trip to New Orleans. I recently found the old VHS recording and transferred it to DVD. I watched it twice since. The interview with Doyle McCormick (I believe thats correct spelling), when the locomotive returned to Portland, was great! That had to be the ultimate life experience to have made that trip in the cab of such a fine locomotive as SP#4449. Several times, it shows the consist approaching the cameraman from over 2 miles away. Watching the train run approach from over the 2 miles is something you don't often see. Come to think of it, the last time I watched any program that shows any train approaching from any great distance was the program about the Spokane, Portland & Seattle. Are the 2 loco's still stored together? What I would give for the opportunity to travel the 2,800 miles to see them. Should have done that while I could.
