Southern Railway forever!

Nicely captured - head on! Not a clue that is part of an NS train - a true what if. (Thanks NS, we know!)

I must say, in all the years of lurking the library here I don't believe I have ever seen a photo of the real deal that appeared to not be just that, this truly appears upon first look to be an HO-Scale model or maybe near to that size, this has really caught my attention, excellent shot. Not sure if anyone else sees it this way but all of my family sees it this way too. I would be absolutely honored to have this pic as wallpaper on my laptop, outstanding work!

Fantastic! It looks so real, almost 3-D. Great shot of a beautiful locomotive!

Even has an old Southern Railway milepost, MP 20. The only thing that speaks to the N&W merger is the white steel boards before the trestle.

The white boards at the corners of the trestle was a Southern Railway standard engineering spec a long time before the merger with the N&W. Not to nit-pick this excellent photo, but the location is actually Watauga (the bridge crosses the Watauga River). Johnson City is MP 25A--five miles west of this location.
