I love everything about this shot: the motive power, the way the units are oriented, the N&W signals, the location/region, and the time period (I was 7 years old at the time). Dad worked for SOU/NS for 30 years, so NS was the railroad I "came up" around. When I reflect back on my earliest railroad memories my mind is filled with scenes like this one. Thanks for posting this great shot of how NS did it back in the day!
