Can't tell for sure who the man in the Chessie jacket is, but could be Alvin Bishop,
long time operator at Wellsboro. I knew Bish (RIP) since I was 15 years old, spent many a Sunday
down at the depot building over the years. I had never saw a B&O train use the loop from the
west going south on the old C&O (PM) line. But as a kid remember seeing the C&O trains
from La Porte headed south with BL-2's and car after car of Allis-Chalmer cotton pickers. My dad,
Bob worked at Chalmers for over 30 some years before retiring there. I remember the first C&O
GP-30's doing the local to La Porte from New Buffalo crossing the NYC at JD tower in La Porte IN,
then working the AC plant yard switching cars in and out, getting the train ready for shipment.
I have the coal burning stove out of the C&O (PM) depot in La Porte, now on display at HVRM
in North Judson IN.
