I remember the Freedom Train well. Several hundred people and I waited a long time to see this train come through Walpole. When it arrived with whistle and bell sounding the whole crowd cheered. In this era, the country was going through another recession which combined with gasoline shortages, the Watergate tapes and Vietnam war losses put people in a funk. The Freedom Train was a welcomed site to us the downtrodden. What a great idea for Memorial Day. Hats off to the General.

That sure brings back memories. July 4, 1976, the AFT was in New Cumberland, Pa, at the Army Depot. The next night my family and several hundred others waited track side until @4am waiting to see it steam west towards Pittsburgh. Nice shot.
