Nice Job NS! now the next one is the Virginian! The heritages are great. Better than UP's heitage by a landslide!

I'm not quite sure what to think of this one. I really wish they would've made an EL locomotive.

NS: another home run!. This locomotive and it's color scheme make my top five. The ACe's in heritage schemes look better than the GE's in their schemes.

Every paint scheme is a winner NS! It goes to show how good those original ones were in the first place. Great job on all of them. (Though the NYC is my favorite!)

Considering the location of the logo on the nose, this scheme would've been a prime candidate for a GE GE ES44AC. Not sure what to think of this one, myself, aside from the fact I extend a debt of gratitude for the program as a whole. Looks passenger-ish where perhaps a green body and yellow bonnet would've looked more the part. Hopefully, this unit stays up North where Erie fans can fully appreciate the flashback.

WOW! I don't even like the Erie and I like this. Very cool. Thanks NS for letting the artists brush loose on us.

All the heritage engines have been great but this is the one that has given me the most genuine 'wow' factor yet! Looks amazing! And these EMDs wear these classic schemes so well. Thank you NS!

Makes you wish the Erie never merged with the Lackawanna and was still an independent railroad.

No, sorry, dont like it. This would have to be my least liked NS heritage loco.

Can't wait until they start their revenue service! I really hope they come through Corinth, Mississippi some day.

Like the Reading unit that preceeded it, this Erie locomotive takes my breath away! The attention to detail displayed in painting all these heritage units, plus the time, effort and money expended, makes me hope that Norfolk Southern will be able maintain these special locomotives in their Heritage schemes for as long as possible, as Union Pacific did with their United Way SD40-2 and two Olympic SD70Ms.

First of all I would like to thank NS for such an awsome program to show there heritage. Sadly Im afraid this one is alittle on the lame side. I DO love the nose logo but the overall scheme is pretty drab. Nothing on the side of that long hood other than a tiny logo doesnt help either.

The wasn't a scheme that I was anticipating, but the result blows me away. It's a classic, but still looks modern to me. Another one on my list of must shoots!

I think it would look better if the nose logo was about a foot higher.

Looks nice. Muncie is rolling now!

That sure is classy! I'm impressed as each new loco comes out! Good job NS.

Now that is sweet! Almost as sweet as the Readung unit. Illinois Terminal next please! The SD70ACe is the ugliest locomotive ever, but the NS knows how to do it!!!! I've pooped turds almost as ugly...but I can't paint those.

The hits keep on coming!

These things just keep on being handsomely rendered.

I agree about the nose logo comment, but these heritage units are getting better and better.

Gorgeous! The modern engine and classic livery work well together.

Dont forget back in the day EMD help design most of these paint schemes

Great job NS..... and kudos to the painters there at Progress Rail on so vreat paint jobs. You have to give crexit where its due.... not bad for a plant that is in start up mode and considering that GE didnt get to paint their units.

I am a life long Erie fan from Jamestown, NY. This locomotive captures the Spirit of Erie. I think the goal of all the Heritage units is to capture the spirit of the predecessor railroad. This program by NS is truly an inspired idea. I hope these units will retain their heritage paint throughout their service with NS.

I posted this on the photo of the engineer's side, but no one responded, so I'm asking again. Does anyone have a photo of an old Geep or Alco freight diesel of the original Erie paint scheme to compare this with? Please? Thank you.

Renee-just do a search on the Railpictures home page. Keyword = Erie, Years = 1950-1959. Lots of photos in the database.
Posted by Renee on May 29, 2012
AJ Doyle: I have followed your guidelines and I have also searched using similar methods. But I cannot find anything other than Erie Lackawanna photos. That is why I asked if any individual had a photo or two to contribute.

Renee - The Erie Lackawanna was not even formed until the 1960 merger. So a 1950 to 1959 Filter along with Erie as the Keyword, like I suggested, will yield only Erie photos and not EL photos. Not trying to be hostile, just helpful.
