How is it that Old Rivets, the one-of-a-kind prototype for all GG1s, is allowed to sit out and rust? For goodness sake, the old girl is even a Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark.
An equally sad pair of DD1s also sits in the background of this photo. I love the RR Museum of PA, and they have done a great job with much of their collection, but these two worthy and neglected cases are hard to understand.

J. Gilbert to answer your question. One reason is that they already have a GG1 in the building that has been spiffied up and there just isn't enough room for anything else in there. Just about every inch of available trackage is in use.

Nice photo! I'm going to side with the comments from J. Gilbert concerning GG-1 #4800...she needs to be inside and not outside exposed to the elements! Take the later model GG-1 from indoors and place it outside and place #4800 inside. You wouldn't take the Wright Brother's plane and place it outside the Smithsonian just to house a newer plane. If room is an issue, take several of the Altoona built Pennsy steam locomotives and return them to Altoona where they belong!
