Give me a GEVO over the pig-ugly SD70ACe any day. I was initially upset that NS decided to paint an SD70ACe in Wabash livery until I remembered they were GM stalwarts...
...and GE's still smoke!

EMDs smoke too I always see NS SD60s smoking.

About 5000 too many, right?

GE's are flat. EMD's outclass GE's in every sense of the word.

I don't know why this has to be a GE vs EMD locomotives discussion. Just look at this unit, it's simply beautiful!

Nathan, good catch. And how many of the rest of you have actually run a GEVO or an ACe in a train?

I haven't, shooter, and I'll fully acknowledge that. Aesthetically, however, I find the GEVO's quite boring, whereas the ACes (like them or not) are much more interesting. As far as actually running them, I understand the GEVOs are better, which is fine, I merely dislike them from an aesthetic point of view.

I made my comment from a UK train driver's point of view, the EMD Class 66 (JT42CWR) is a generally good loco, but not as good as a GE class 70 (PH37ACmi). Their tractive effort is far superior, they fail less and sound much better (especially in the cab). EMD's were a stop-gap implemented by Ed Burkhardt to replace old UK power, and a lack of off-the shelf equipment forced other operators to buy GM. Now GE and Vossloh are on the scene, things will change. Just my opinion.

By the way those special markings are actually huge decals the UP had made and applied the day before the trip. The 7900s have a software glitch in their computer that prohibts them from being used as a leader on trains. It messes with the air when its cut in as a leader.
