Boiler jacketing and cylinder jacketing have a rather blue hue compared to domes and side tanks. Might jacketing be some kind of unpainted blued metal or is it merely reflection of sky? But then it is not likely that side of canted cylinder would reflect sky. Whatever the cause, the look is appealing.

@ FSWood: You are right. Some swiss steam locomotives like # 4 of the DFB have bolier and cylinder jacketing with unpainted sheet metal, called "blue sheet". Compare with this picture of the same locomotive www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=334638 Georg

@FSwood You're right the color is grey/blue because originaly most Swiss Steamers had "russian iron" jacketing in this color. Today its usually painted common steel in the same color. Because "russian iron" rusts without a layer of oil. Felix
