Nice shot! I wonder what hit the U23, the hand rails didn't get hit, and they don't seem to be repaired already.

There's no doubt in my mind that with that kind of nose damage the handrails were replaced, not repaired. Its obviously a very old injury as the handrails have the appearance of being original, in that they are just as worn and weathered as the rest of the locomotive. The remaining nose damage is superficial and required no repairs. It just looks ugly.
