Boy does this photograph bring back memories. My grandparents’ house was on the opposite bank of the Powell River from this station. In the late-40s and early-50s when I would visit them as a little tyke, I would dash to the window EVERY time I heard the whistle of the train coming to a stop at the station. I did not move until it departed. Also, I let the trains mash flat many a penny at the crossing shown in the photo. Appalachia was wonderful place for a train-loving little boy. My grandfather was the trainmaster for the Interstate RR.
