Dang, I always miss all the good catches. My camera is not wort much to catch it anyways, but it would have been nice to see. I was over there just this past Saturday. Awesome catch!

I love the contrast between the old and the new. Great job.

I'm with Extra 127 South on this. The contrast between the new locomotives and pretty much everything else in this photo is quite stark.

This very train later plied the streets of St. Mary's, WV on its trip, didn't it? Someone smarter than I could create a caption, but when I saw the thumbnail my first thought was "'young, strong and useful' vs. 'aging, decrepit and abandoned'". Although we don't see older locomotives here there are both the rusting cars, ancient (compared with these sparkling engines) structures and metal junk, all pretty much made out of the same steel, which dominates the surrounding landscape. Even the irregularly placed, miscellaneous items add to the latter scene.

Been a while since I've been to Ashland, a lot has changed at this spot. My mother grew up in this town and my dad had an uncle that worked in the yard at Russell putting trains together for the C&O
