The Rock Island had some fascinating lines - the parallel (to MP) St. Louis - Kansas City line south of Jefferson City; the Tucumcari-Memphis line which on a map looked to run so perfectly between the Los Angeles shipping lanes and the middle southwest/south (I still don't understand why some railroad didn't snap that up, like the KCS did the Mid-South/former IC for their "Meridian Speedway").
