I remember seeing that switcher when it still wore Chessie paint sans lettering. That industrial track was a unique operation in the DC area and I think the only other shipper on the line is Robinson Terminal. As you said, it's likely to disappear. Would be nice if the line could be put to use as a transit artery though.

There is only one other NS customer on this one-mile branch, and that's Robinson Terminal, where The Washington Post stores newsprint. The Post has put the terminal up for sale. Developers are lusting over the potential of this valuable property. When it goes, the track's fate will be sealed. It once was the last mile of the Alexandria, Loudoun & Hampshire RR.

Out-of-towner? But.. but... but..., I'm a GWU Colonial (Class of 1983) whose father served at Fort Belvoir and who always says, "DC," never "Washington," when refering to the area... I'm almost a native. Oh - and very nice picture...
