From mountainous areas to sea level the grades this train passes through must be extreme. It is my understanding that concentrated sulfuric acid is basically non-reactive in the absence of water and can be pumped through plain carbon steel with very little reactive effect. I can imagine that if a leak developed on one of the tank cars very little would happen in this super dry climate.
