Excellent bit of steam locomotive operational information. I didn't know they actually injected oil into the steam to accomplish lubrication for the cylinders and valves. Thanks for sharing.

By injecting the oil into the steam lines, it helps to kind of spray the oil into the valves and cylinder rather than just be dumped in, thus not spreading out as well.
