Anderson's an interesting place on the KCS. It has an unusual bit of street running on a mainline. The rails go over rip-rap for a full block downtown (between the old police headquarters and City Hall) which also forms an alley. There's no concrete curb by the side of the rails, so one can literally drive up with their tires touching the rails, which isn't a good idea given that this line carries trains of all kinds between Kansas City and Shreveport going through at around 40 mph or more. Who was the scientist who said "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction"? There may be a law of physics for this stretch that says "Activity speeds up around every train that crosses this segment" such as alley cats suddenly breaking into a run as the train sounds its horn before Main St. (by the old police station), or cars on a lazy drive suddenly hitting their brakes then quickly accelerating out of the quasi-alley they're sharing a unit coal train with.
