There must be some bridges with low Coopers Ratings on this rail line. Please note the spacer car between the engines.

Exactly Bill, that's, as you mention. That plane car is for separating the engines, but it can maintain the connection in multiple. This is to reduce axle weight because weight restrictions that has the Bio-Bio railway bridge.
