I would be interested to know what the cargo for this train is. Unit crude and ethanol trains almost always have a buffer car behind the lead locomotive(s).

You are correct about the buffer car between the locomotives and train. This train pictured was an empty crude oil train. Why there was no buffer car, I do not know.
