Fun photo, UP restoring the Big Boy is the biggest news in steam restoration since the N&W 1218 was restored back in the early 1980s. I sure hope to see the 4014 and 3985 together in steam.

I never thought that one could organize a party on a tender!

Are the guys in the tender there for a reason, or just for a ride? Whatever the reason it's still a good photo, and as you say once converted to oil no one will want to be there again! Thanks for sharing this photo with us.

From all appearances, it appeared that they were riding in the coal bunker for fun. They were waving so much it looked like the Rose Parade (in nearby Pasadena)!

Question about the attending UP #1996 - what is that paint scheme? Is it some sort of Heritage Unit? Almost looks more BNSF than UP! Haha! Great photo, btw - love the riders - jealous of their being able to ride along - what a thrill for them!!

The coal bunker was for crew and others going for the ride: A few Rail Giants train museum volunteers (like myself in the fireman seat) and a few others on different segments.

I can't help but notice everyone has PPE on except the police officer. At least have some eye protection on!

Yes I noticed that the Police man hasn't got any PPE on. And did anyone else notice the lady in the cab? Blue jacket, jeans high viss vest and camera, sat in front of the happy looking chap!
