Perfect physical plant, high maintenance standards, new rolling stock and locos... this very fine view encapsulates the significant profit this railroads earns, and the equally significant reinvestment of such profit back into their system.

Being very cautious not to get too political here. There is a(n ill-advised) "war on coal" going on politically right now in our nation, and there's simultaneous talk of how Warren Buffett's BNSF is making oodles of profit with oil trains out of the "Frackin' Bakken" and elsewhere. Nonetheless, this picture tells me that there are places where coal traffic is here to stay at least for a long while. I only hope the coal keeps serving American plants and doesn't end up being shipped all overseas.

Nicely put. It appears that the three loaded trains came from different mines by the shape of the stacking?
