I believe these were the largest engines east of the Mississippi River. Have any of these massive locomotives been saved from the scrappers?

Norfolk & Western mastered the manufacturing & use of compound steam articulated locomotives. Note the size of the front cylinders compared to the rear cylinders. The huge front cylinders enabled N&W to use the steam from the rear cylinders to power the front cylinders. ALCO also made compound articulated, but not as successful as N&W. The engineers at N&W were geniuses.
