A beautiful trio of Escalante Western Fuels Railway. The Western Fuels Association's railroad is a subsidiary whose sole purpose is to haul coal between Escalante Jct., east of Gallup, NM, and Peabody Coal Company's Lee Ranch Mine north of Grants, NM. The SD40 is a high-horspower (3,000 hp), six-asle model powered by the EMD16-645-E3 turbocharged V16. Capable of 83 mph, weighing 360,000 lbs. 1,268 were produced.
