I really like this shot. The high hoods and deep rock cut are reminiscent of N&W or Southern. I have been to Australia a few times but only very briefly to WA. I rode on the old QR but never realized WA was narrow gauge also. Did the two systems connect historically and do they connect now?

Before the interstate route was standardised from Perth all the way through to the eastern states, WA's network was all narrow gauge 3"6'. Its system was isolated due to the break of gauge at Kalgoorlie.

So no, the narrow gauge never has and still doesnt connect with QLD's narrow gauge network. However the standard gauge track connects Perth with Brisbane now.
