It's easy to see that these are former Northern Pacific Locomotives, Jeff.

Is it? Not one of them is ex-NP. They are former Illinois Central, Iowa Interstate, D&RGW, SP, UP, GN....they've worked for lots of roads, but NP isn't one of them.

Jeff, thanks for putting me in my place. Why then would they be painted in the Northern Pacific paint scheme? Just curious.

The owner(s) of the St. Croix Valley like the Northern Pacific, so they based their paint scheme on the old NP paint scheme.

Thanks for sharing that information, Jeff. Sort of like the Monon, Its colors were those of the Purdue Boilermakers. That seems to make sense since Purdue University is located near the Monon.
