That is actually kind of cool. I wouldn't want every CSX locomotive to look like this, of course, but it is neat to see something different on CSX.

Looks sharp. If they put in yellow numberboards it would resemble a modern version of Clinchfield, itself a CSX predecessor.

Interesting how what appears yellow on blue, appears gold on black ... thanks for posting Brian.

That's not too far off From being a Clinchfield unit haha.

April fools?

The black looks much nicer than the blue!

It appears in fact as if the number boards are sitting on the front walkway! I heard that NS now has all of the former Conrail SD80MACs, including the CSX units. Did CSX receive the SD40-2's in exchange for them?

One would think they would have at least painted the ends yellow (give it that PL&E look).

Looking at the trucks, this one is ex Conrail

Very P&LE like. I approve!

I believe they should keep those ex-NS patched paint schemes. They could call it BN1 (black nose 1). Plus, they are kinda going to be a target for railfans while they are painted in the BN1 scheme.

Wow, thanks for posting. I have been waiting for these. Not a bad patch job, way above the spray can job I expected. I actually hope they keep this scheme for a while.

Weird paint scheme...

I like it.

Nice. I can't wait to see one in person. I'll keep an eye out in New Castle PA. I assume this nicely done patch job means they won't be repainted anytime soon.

Getting better, CSX - just needs a smoke stack, bell and a tender! Nice catch!

There's no mistaking the heritage of this loco from its BLACK paint and black numbers on white cab number boards! Brian , Thank You for posting .

Looking a bit Pittsburgh Steelers here.

Built December 1970 as a SD40 for Penn Central # PC 6252 to CR 6252 then rebuilt to Dash 2 specs and Designated a SD40-2 renumbered CR 6984 then to NS 3438 in the Conrail split now CSXT 8909, a lot of history on that unit. Yellow frame stripe, Yellow face (over the white) and Yellow number boards would look sharp!

How about painting one up as a black heritage SCL unit with motto "Pulling For You"! Would be cool!
Posted by Sid Vaught on April 3, 2015
Hey, Allen, how about a big "Clinchfiedld" on the side? Suits my tastes!
Posted by f15chaser on April 3, 2015
I REALLY like it!

That"s to Cool , I Like It, Maybe NS Will Put A White Horsehead On A Blue 80 Mac.
Posted by Allan Johnson on April 4, 2015
Only if they do the chevrons on the front pilot Sid! Works for me.
Posted by xBNSFer on April 6, 2015
Yeah definitely (originally) an SD40; the dynamic brake blister gives it away. The trucks wouldn't, if it was ex-Conrail!

So when is CSX going to create some heritage units?
