MTA / LIRR would LOVE to be rid of its trains east of Riverhead, however, in the strange world of public authorities, a MINIMAL amount of service to Greenport is maintained in order that the MTA can continue to collect taxes from the relatively affluent and growing Town of Southold.

Most of he money is actually wasted on the locomotive only pulling two coaches. Many have suggested to change the locomotive, something like one of the LIRR SW1001 engines, or the M7 DMUs. If so, it would be more practical.
