I recently visited the Toledo Union Station back in December. It's a beautiful building on the inside but it's a shame that the platform area look so run down. Amtrak only uses the basement, but the upstairs is pretty nice. I wish that they gave tours of the building.

I agree, Toledo has to be the loneliest and most "haunting" active station in the Amtrak system. But then, I've only ever been there in the cold, dark of night.

@Rich Brown I could imagine how scary that must be at night. The surrounding area around the depot also look kinda rundown.

Guys, it was pretty scary when I first go there. First you come down from street level, it is this kind of lurking . There is a steady flow tho of cars going over to NS yards but very little going on. After a while I got used to it but proceeded with care. I went there after slide show at Durand so spent most of the night for all the trains. Bob

@Robert Jordan I proceeded with caution when I was there during the day. Toledo should fix up the area surrounding the station though. A city's train station is suppose to be a welcome mat. Even the area around Detroit's Amtrak station (not Michigan Central Station) doesn't look that run down. Great photo by the way. Did you visit the upper level while you were there?

No, did not go up. My GPS led me directly to lower level and tho I walked around lower level I did not go up. It is interesting up there, street entrance?

The lobby of the station (upstairs) is beautiful, especially the mural above the entrance. If ever go back during the day visit the upper the level; I was amazed at how nice it looked up there. Too bad they kept Amtrak in the basement.
