I've always wondered (and this image provokes the thought again) what bridge was on the extended abutments to the right of the LV bridge in this photo. Looks like maybe an additional span used to be there to carry additional tracks, or maybe they built the abutments wide enough for additional tracks for future expansion but never actually built the additional spans.
