I am surprised to see that the Moscow- Vladivostok "Transsiberian" is running on a non- electrified single track section. Any particular reason?

This train No. 100 goes through Yaroslavl and Kostroma, on the TRANS-Siberian railway goes in Galich. You are confusing it with the train № 1 "Russia" Moscow - Vladivostok, going through Vladimir and Nizhny Novgorod.
