This is an unusual composition what with the mountain slope and all the diagonal lines leading to the front of the locomotive. This takes you out of the normal narrow gauge train picture. Well done John.

This was my third shot at composition on this one. The first time I played the verticals and centered the train, but it just didn't look right, it begged to be moved to the right. So I moved it just a bit. Still didn't look right. So I dropped back to the bad old rule of thirds on the third try and positioned the nose at the one third point horizontally (but kept it low vertically because of the strong verticals. This one seems to work best. I tried hard to break the rule but finally had to give in. Thanks for noticing.

In spite of the strong verticals of the locomotive and trees, the diagonal snow element is so strong, it give s this image it's strength. And i do not see rule of thirds at all. More Golden Mean really.
