Very interesting photo and description. It's sad that the Bassano station burned down after being moved to Beiseker for restoration.

Apparently neither the Cliner nor the F7a had nose MU setup otherwise I am sure they would have just swapped the engines. Since the CP bought the CPA16-44 in A-B arrangements not A-B-A this might make sense. I find even more interesting is they must have brought in the FM, since I thought they had been mostly relegated to freight service in BC by this time which isn't very close to here especially if they are heading East. I assume that because it would be the north side of the station in the shadows thus photographer would have to be facing south. East goes to your left if you are facing south, but I could be wrong. Also looking at a satellite image of Bassano I see the remains of both a turntable and a wye near the yard so why not reverse 1 an forgo waiting for another engineer. I am wondering if the MU controls were part of the early EMD units that were made intentionally incompatible with FM, ALCO, and Baldwin units.
