This is a great shot, Bill. I almost couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the diagonal rectangle with the Milwaukee Road name on it. Thanks for bringing this piece of history to all of us here.

For whatever reason, I liked this original scheme much better than the later Metra version. As a CNW employee at the time, it was interesting to see how MILW got these units. We were still proud of our privately run commuter service, but as some of my other photos attest, CNW was running out of gas on keeping good commuter service without some type of subsidy as well as BN, MILW, RI and ICG. Thus the RTA and ultimately Metra.
