From what I've been able to find out 5501 and 5502 originally had cabs and were later rebuilt without them. There were other Santa Fe units that suffered cab damage and were rebuilt without cabs, so I'm assuming something like that happened here too.

I'd have to say I heartily agree with their decision to use the "billboard" style scheme sand Warbonnet and cigar band for these home built B units (and for the factory B units they bought later).
