Based on an Internet search and blowing the photo up to 500%, there is a chance that autorack is carrying Yugos!

That area to the right is part of the Altoona dead line. Most of the "baggage car"s are E8's, and there are plenty of Alco switchers and road switchers buried in there, too. Yugos first appeared in the US in 1985. My guess is that the auto rack is carrying 1978 Ford Fiestas.

Looks like that Alco either caught on fire or spewed a bunch of oil. What a great shot of a different time in railroading.

It's been years since I have been to Altoona... early 90's probably. I remember walking across a bridge of some sort to get photos of the yard and deadline. Could that be the bridge there in the background?
