Bob, nice photo and thanks for posting the map location of Bennington Curve. It's one of my bucket list places to visit on the former PRR. Since I am not only a train buff but a history nut as well, I would like to visit the Bennington Curve that was the site of the infamous PRR Detroit to New York Red Arrow train wreck back in February 1948. Two K4s were heading eastbound (down hill) with the passenger train (in your photo where the track was removed and is now a vehicle path). The two k4s jumped the two west bound tracks taking several passenger cars over the embankment with them. Reports said at the K4s may have completely jumped over the west bound tracks due to excessive speed. A lot of passengers lost their lives and the two K4s were scrapped due to the damage they suffered. My parents who grew up in nearby Altoona said the community even went to the high school to recruit high school students to help with the disaster.

Correction on my previous comments....The Red Arrow wreck was in 1947 and not 1948.
