I know nothing about the photos, but the numbered sign is an intermediate signal mile marker along the BNSF up Cajon Pass. The location is known as "Hill 582"-- mile marker 58.2-- the location of the knoll that has been adopted by local SoCal railfans (some call themselves the "Cajon Mafia") who have landscaped the area, added benches, and memorabilia such as the sign. During the recent, massive "Blue Cut Fire", the entire Pass burned everything around Hill 582, but spared the popular rail-fan spot itself. A "bucket list" spot for foamers.

The "G" stands for "grade"-- 2.2%.

Thanks for the info. Seeing that it would be a hard afternoon trip, it may be a while before I make it out there. Guess I'll have to stick to Arkansas and LA. (That's "Lower Arkansas" for you Cali types)
