Lovely shot Martin (as usual) Victoria's broad gauge, right? How far into NSW does it extend?
|
Thanks John. The VR broad gauge extended into (invaded?) NSW in several locations, sometimes just hopping over the river (Albury, Tocumwal) as well as some fairly long branches. Here is a map showing the gauges in Victoria as they were in 1999: http://victorianrailways.net/vr%20map/vrmap.pdf
Since then, the Oaklands line has been converted to SG (along with all of Seymour - Albury) and the Moulamein line has fallen into disuse past the junction at Barnes. Tocumwal and Deniliquin both retain a regular freight service, and are the only remaining BG operations north of the border.
