I don't know if it was the same on the DRGW or not, but growing up in a town with the MP, UP loco's were by far the most common "foreign" power. I remember being in my late teens when the "Mop-Up" happened, and it wasn't surprising to me at all due to the common occurrence of UP engines. Not that it makes any sense, but to an 18 year old it seemed reasonable.
