Interesting photo Craig and nice capture of the different paint schemes of BNSF units. I don't believe those are "Grave Markers" for fallen football players - but they are a tribute to football players. Possible that a bus carrying the local High School football team got hit by a train at this crossing? (Guessing) So the locals put these markers here in tribute to those injured and perhaps killed. (Again, guessing) Still an interesting photo...I'm sure someone out there in RP.net land will have some knowledge about the markers. Anyone? Thank you for the information and thank you for the photo Craig.

I think we would have heard of a bus getting hit here if it killed that many students. It's right across the highway from a local cafe that don't need a name, right by the "Welcome to D'Hanis" sign. Probably just a good visible site to put up markers to get folks excited on the way to game. According to Google, they are 6-4 this year, and going to the playoffs, so not dead yet...

To quote Rocket J. Squirrel: Hokey smoke! It appears that some didn't follow the asterisk to the fine print at the bottom in order to see that I was joking! (If these were graves, these guys would have been pretty darn short...)

Craig - I read your asterisk interpretation, and I also was guessing as to the reason for the markers. I know it's a tribute to the local High School team, and now I'm sure this is due to the team being in the High School playoffs. Plus you're right - if these were graves, they would all have to have been VERY short folks, if not a pee-wee team? African Pygmies come to mind in the height scale for graves of this size - if they were grave markers. :-) LOL
