Experiencing winter in the Sierras is similar to seeing the Grand Canyon for the first time, or flying over Los Angeles at night for the first time. One simply can't comprehend the sheer scale of it all until you witness it first hand. Donner is the only place I've been where the snow depth can actually accumulate to a height above that of a double stack train. It's bonkers.
