An "F" on the point of a freight - in 1976, no less - sweet shot! Sure miss those colors!

These lasted until about 1980 when recession conditions gave BN the opportunity to start retiring "7" series EMDs, F7s, GP7s and SD7s. I did see an SD7 still operating in fall 1982, but that was about the end of it. GP and SD9s kept on plugging along, but the Fs were pretty much done.

Very nice job! What happened to this unit?

This BN 724 was the second F7 numbered as such by BN. This unit was originally a passenger F7, NP 6513C and became BN 9790 and operated in passenger service including Amtrak. It was renumbered to 724 some time after the first BN 724 was retired in 1973. The 1st 724 was former NP 6012A and was scrapped in New Jersey, never repainted to BN colors. The second 724 was retired in November 1981.
