Joshua - wonderful photo and interesting information. I have to ask, when did the Catskill Mountain Railroad resume operations? I know that last year they were running their "Thank you for 146 Years of Mountain Railroading!" excursions and shutting down. Unless they've relocated to Kingston from somewhere else, this is exciting news to see they are still operating and haven't run their last trains as once believed.

Hi Dana, thank you. The CMRR has been having troubles with the County pretty much since their start, it turned out to merely be a personal grudge. It was the County Executive who had the problem with them and he got elected out a year or two ago, which allowed for the CMRR to get another five-year lease on the line from Kingston to Boiceville. Unfortunately, thanks to the State, the portion of the Adirondack Scenic Railroad which the Rail Explorers operate on was shut down, so the Rail Explorers started looking for a new line and expressed interest in the Phoenica-Boiceville section of the Catskill Mountain Branch and came out as a higher bidder than the CMRR, so the CMRR can no longer run trains out of Mount Tremper, which is, to be honest, the nice part of the line. There is hope though, they are currently trying to work out a deal with the Rail Explorers for fall foliage excursions this fall out of Mount Tremper and they are working to restore the rest of the line to Cold Brook, which is operational for the most part.
