I guess the 9499 on the sun visor helped the crew to remember what unit number they were driving.

What a great train this would have been to ride. The Talgos have nothing on a Budd dome.

All locomotives have the engine's number displayed in a number of easily viewable locations. Many railroad 'mandatory directives' are issued to the train with a specified engine number.
